The next in our Summer Reads series is great summer horror novels.
Chilling moments can happen even in the daylight of summer. In fact, these are some of the best times to read horror novels. Due to our summer love for thrillers, here is a few of our favorites for this year:
This one is actually not new, but it’s a classic that should be much appreciated. A summer storm hits this town, and brings along terror not before seen. It’s a summer chiller that is great for hurricane season.
This is another fun read all about terror in the summer. A girl named Claire finds post-college plans landing her working at a hotel in Massachusetts for the summer. Soon she falls back into her old ways, partying with a wild group of young rebels in her new town. Very soon, however, Claire is stuck in a spiral of ritual sacrifices and killer parties and is unable to escape her new home. This is a great summer read with that sleepy twn feeling.
With a very Cormack McCarthy’s The Road feeling to it, this book is all about an apocalyptic horror filled world where some are predator, and others are prey. A chilling military experiment exposed from a government security breach leads to world of terror that is great to read about on a summer night.
Another vintage, but necessary read for the summer. If you haven’t read this yet, it is definitely a recommended read. Make sure to read the whole series.
Another Stephen King book, because he is one of the horror novel masters. This is a suspenseful horror novel about a reader whose obsession with a reclusive writer goes far too far. If you like Misery, than you will love this summer read.
Miguel and Kristin want to have a night of harmless fun. They grab a map and head to the caves. Things take a turn for the worst when its discovered that the caves are inhabited. This is a summer vacation gone wrong, perfect for another horror summer read.
This one is a YA horror novel. Similar to Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, this book is filled with all of the horrors of a modern YA chiller. The main character, Dan, finally got into the New Hampshire College Prep program for a chance of a lifetime. When he arrives, however, the summer housing is full and he has to stay in the crumbling Brookline Dorm, which was formerly a psychiatric hospital. As they begin to explore, they find out disturbing truths about the past residents who may still be hanging around. Using photos from real past asylums, this book is a chiller for any summer read.
Another YA horror novel recently published, this is an apocalyptic disease book about a girl trying to survive in a horror ridden new world full of danger and “deaders.” For another great YA summer read, this is a great choice.
