  1. The Summer Experiment by Cathie Pelletier

This book has a lot of great qualities. It’s a book about Sci Fi, it takes place in the summer, and it’s a book about girls loving science. The book starts with Roberta and her best friend Marilee spending the summer trying to figure out what they should do for the next year’s science fair in order to beat their arch nemesis, Henry Horton Harris Helmsby. When weird lights start appearing all over town, the two decide to prove the existence of aliens believing that will win them the gold for sure. It’s a great children’s book to read for the summer.

  1. A Toothfully Twisted Summer by Ellen Cappello

This one hits the border of Sci Fi and fantasy, centered on a fairy girl named Magnolia Bloomgarden who is spending the summer in Tooth Kingdom to work for the family business. She is sad about leaving her best friend, Sun, behind for the summer and gets more nervous as she realizes that her friend is being pursued by dark fairies who need teeth to survive. Magnolia goes on an adventurous journey to save her friend, and all of Tooth Kingdom. This is a children’s adventure story great for a kid to read during the summer.

  1. Find Me by Laura Van der Berg

This Sci Fi book is not just another virus book. It’s the story of a lonely girl who, after being immune to a unknown virus, gets put in a bunker hospital where she makes a lot of unlikely friends. The story doesn’t focus so much on the virus, but rather the young woman who is just trying to find her place in the world-even struggling to do so during a rampant virus-filled world. It is a short story, so it’s an easy summer read, and its full of some great, dark humor.

  1. Touch by Claire North

This is a story that I keep hearing about everywhere, so it has to be on the list. This book is written by the acclaimed author who wrote The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. This Sci Fi/horror/thriller mixed novel is about a protagonist who has the gift of switching lives with people. As the character steals lives from people, you follow their story through adaption. Definitely a creepy Sci Fi worth reading this summer.

This is a Neil Gaiman, so it’s a must read. This is his third, and newest, collection of short fiction writings. It includes a never-before published American Gods story called “Black Dog” as well as many other must read short stories. This series also includes a very special Doctor Who story that was written for the fiftieth anniversary of the beloved series in 2013.

  1. The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro

Famous author of Never Let Me Go and the Booker Prize-winning The Remains of the Day, has just published this book which is his first published novel in 10 years. This new book is a story set in post Roman Britain that includes the act of forgetting and the power of memory, a resonant tale of love, vengeance, and war. This is a good one for all those Game of Thrones fans. Its also a great summer, Sci Fi read.

Don’t forget to check out the previous genres so far in the series: Contemporary, Romance, and Mystery.
